why a bird?

every team has tasks that only one person knows how to do. the refund with the weird extra step. the month-end report. the supplier portal with the login nobody remembers. so that person explains it again, and again, or writes a doc nobody opens.

we wanted something that just shows people. not a video to scrub through. a guide that points at the actual button, on your actual screen.

kea is named after the kea, a mountain parrot from new zealand's southern alps. they're clever, curious and a bit cheeky, the kind of bird that works out how to pull the rubber off your windscreen wipers. and parrots are the original copycats: watch once, repeat it back.

that's the whole idea. you show kea once. kea shows everyone else.

the little guy is made of two keys: a dot for the eye and a > for the beak. on a mac they sit on the same key, so kea is literally your full stop key. the beak always points at the next thing to click. and when you need him, it's ⌃.
